Alpha Masks

The Special Edition Kit contained Heidi Swapp Alphabet Masks. They look like stickers, but they are more fun!

A mask is the opposite of a stencil. The way you use them is you stick the letter onto the page where you want the letter to go. Then use watercolors, acrylic paint or chalk and paint across the letter and the surrounding area. Allow to dry briefly and then peel up the mask.

This process is how I created the Shamu title on this layout.

You can achieve some fun effects when you layer the letters on top of the patterned paper like I did here in this Friends layout.

The mask letters are reusable and do not need to be cleaned after use. You should be able to get a lot of use out of this awesome alphabet!

Remember to check out the gallery for even more ideas for using the masks on your layouts.

Special Edition Reverse Sides of Paper

Since the SE Kit picture only shows one side of the fun paper, I thought that I'd share a picture of the other side of all of the patterned papers. These are such great patterns that nicely coordinate the more bold patterns on the "front."

The kit is now sold out, so I hope that everyone who reserved it is excited to be receiving it.

We would love to see what you create with your kit if you'd like to share a picture with us!

Mixing Months

I recently did a layout using paper from October and some leftover from July. They went together really well and I'm excited about how it turned out. To me, my kids really are the face of JOY.

I also used the ghost letters from October. I painted the backs green and then distressed them with some distress ink.

Enjoy

Fun Idea From Janet in MD

One of our subscribers, Janet, just sent us pictures of something she created with this month's kit. She created a Thank You album to give to her mother-in-law for helping them move back East. She used the zig-zag album and patterned paper. Check it out:

I love how Janet took pictures of her kids holding up signs with the thank you message. What a great idea!

Thanks for sharing!

Ghost Letters

In our October kit we included one of my favorite things: Heidi Swapp Ghost letters. Some of you may be unfamiliar with them, so I thought that I'd share some tips on incorporating them into your projects.

Since they are clear, you have many options when it comes to coloring (or not coloring) them. You can using stamping ink as I did on this Happy Birthday card. I suggest a pigment based ink like a Stazon ink pad.

You can also use acrylic paint. You can paint just around the edges as I did on the September album cover.

You can paint the entire letter like I did on the Muddy fun layout. This gives your letters a new color while still having the glossy and shiney look.

You can also use alcohol inks to color them. You just squeeze a drop of the ink from the bottle and swirl it around on the letter. It is fun to mix colors too!

You can also use use the letters plain as I did in the next two layouts.

I'd love to hear about new ways that you have used these letters in your layouts!

I will share more soon about different ways to attach the letters to your page.

Using the October Kit

Last month I decided to take an online challenge and scrapbook the month of September. It was such a fun challenge and now I have a fun little album showing the daily activities of the month.

I used the October kit to design this album. The cover of the album used the patterned paper and ribbon from the kit. I also used Heidi Swapp Ghost letters similar to the alphabet in the kit.

To help the ghost letters really stand out, I used a foam paint brush and some acrylic paint to paint around the edges of the letters. I then sent them through my Xyron machine to add adhesive to the back and stuck them to the page.

Here are a few of my inside pages. I just cut strips of the patterned paper to create a boarder on each page. At the end of each day, I journaled about the day and included pictures on some pages.

This kit is so much fun to create with. We'd love you see your creations! Just send me an email with your image and I'll post it here to share with everyone.
