Fabric Rosette Tutorial

Hi All! I am here to share a fun totorial with you today! Earlier this month I created this layout with the April kit:

The little roses that you see on the page are hand rolled roses made with the American Crafts "Dear Lizzy" fabric paper. Even though they look little complicated, with just a few supplies and repetitious steps you'll soon realize they're really quite simple.

These are the supplies that you will need in order to make a rosette:

1.) A 1/2 inch by 8 inch piece of the Dear Lizzy fabric paper.

2.) A bottle of glue

3.) A needle/paper piercing tool. I misplaced my needle tool so I made mine using a mini screw driver, it works just as well! :)

After you cut a 1/2 inch by 8 inch strip of the Dear Lizzy fabric paper, peel all of the paper and adhesive backing off of the fabric.

Apply a small dot of glue to the right end of the fabric strip.

Hold the tool vertically in your right hand, the strip in your left, and begin to roll the tool toward the left. Make a few revolutions to secure the paper and form the center of the rose.

Use your left hand to bend the strip straight up at a 90 degree angle.

Continue rolling the tool toward the left, rolling over the fold as you go. At the same time, use your left hand to gradually bring the strip back down to a horizontal position. This might sound a little complicated at first but it's really simple once you get the hang of it.


Repeat the rolling/folding as many times as it takes to use up the strip of fabric. You can see halfway through that your rose is starting to form!

Once you get to the end of the strip, fold the end under the rose and use another small drop of glue to adhere it firmly.


Gently slide the rose off of your needle tool and voila!! There is your little rosette!

I add some glue to the bottom of the rose as well to ensure that it doesn't unravel.

There ya go! Nothing to it! :) If you want to make bigger rosettes using this technique you definitely can. Just make sure that the bigger roses that you make, the longer your fabric or paper strip has to be when you start out. I hope you enjoyed my tutorial! Have a great weekend!

As someone who loves blues, greens and browns, the May kit is a dream come true for me! Here is a sneak peek of what I have been working on with the kit. tip of the day.....

today I wanted to share with you a tutorial on how to make a flower like the one here (I used the fabric cardstock from the April kit--it's from the American Craft Dear Lizzy line:

Don't be afraid it's not as hard, I just like lots of pictures to do the talking for me.

First off you are going to need a couple of strips from your paper. I just hand cut down the outside of these two particular designs:

Next you are going to need to peel off the adhesive backing.

I decided that I would start with the back of my flower first. I looped my fabric, continuing....

always making sure that the front side is showing....

Until I had made a complete flower. I then hot glued the end and any other loose pieces together....

This is what my finished back looked like, remember this will be covered up. I still decided that I want the other side to be my front side so I turned it over.

Next, I took my "front" part of the flower and started to roll....

Once I did that twice I twisted the fabric until the front side was showing again, this gives the flower dimension and is TOTALLY up to you how many times you want too.....

I twisted and rolled and occasionally hot glued so that it wouldn't "let go" until I had a tail (are you liking my technical terms?).

I then glued the "tail" over the end of the flower.

I next glued the pink flower to the green, then adhered my pearl (I bought my pearl in the bead department at Walmart--they came on a strand 66 pieces for like $1.96). I then decided I wanted my back petals to be closer to my middle part of the flower so I glued those up.

What's fun about this flower is that you can make it into a hair clip too! I had so much that I made another using a spare piece of corduroy:

Total time to make this is roughly 10 minutes. Be patient with yourself and you will enjoy the fruit of your effort. Real quick Elizabeth Kartchner (the maker of this FABULOUS paper also did a tutorial on how to make a different kind of flower using this paper. You can watch it HERE.

I've been thoroughly enjoying playing with the May kit to get some layouts and ideas ready for your inspiration. So, I thought I'd whet your appetite a bit with some fun peeks at a few of the things I've been working on.

By The Seashore

Hey guys! Happy Thursday! I hope each of you are having a wonderful day! Are we ready for the weekend?!!! Yay!!! I know I am! I hope I can do some scrappy shoppin'! That's always fun! Anyways, yesterday I decided to sit at my scrap desk and play. Of course, I had to turn to the April kit. Here it is, almost the end of April, and I am still diggin' into this kit for inspiration. When I see the colors in this kit, it makes me think of summer and the beach. So I dug through some pix and found a beach picture and decided to scrap it. Everything on this page, with the exception of the Coredinations cardstock, thread, bling, and alphas were pulled from the kit. I did a bit of sanding on the Coredinations cardstock. I just love this cardstock sanded for spring/beachy themed pages. It gives such a rustic, distressed look. I am a definitely a fan!! I used my Cuttlebug to cut the butterflies out using the dictionary page that is included in the kit. I then spritzed them with some 'coffee shop' Glimmer Mist. I added some bling to the center of each butterfly. I cut the banner out from the Dear Lizzy 'Sunny Spot' patterned paper. I LOVE this paper and it was definitely made for cutting! So fun! And the best part...I still have LOTS left!

Spotlight!!

I am always on the look out for great layouts made by the peeps that are using their Scrapbook Circle kits. And Tessa Buys caught my attention!!

Every time I went to her blog this week there was another wonderful layout using the Scrapbook Circle kits she has.


I absolutely love this one! How cute are those pinwheel flowers? And that stitching!! The leaves!!!! Oh my gosh... amazing work, Tessa!

tip of the day.....

Are you just loving all of the creations in the gallery from the April kit? I sure am! I wanted to talk about the fabric paper in the kit--it's SO versatile! For example:

on this card not only did I use the fabric paper for the pleated part but also the center of one of the flowers. pretty sweet, huh? So what have you done with it? I would LOVE to see, please share in the photo gallery.

Flowers from the kit

In the April kit -- there were all sorts of 'flowers' that were just waiting to be discovered. In this SPRING banner, I used one of the dear Lizzy papers that had a whole bunch of not-quite-perfect circle shapes. I cut out different sizes and colors. Then, I crinkled them up and layered them -- but not directly on top of each other. That was my base for each of the banner letters.
Here is the whole thing. I love how all the colors are so 'springy'! I used my silhouette to cut out some branches, butterflies, and the letters. -- and I was done! Enjoy.

Crazy for the April Add On's!!

Hi All!! TGIF! :) I am stopping by to share some of the creations that I have made with the April kit and the April add on's. I just adore the add on's, the crochet flowers are my favorite, they're so cute and pretty!





The 3D Dear Lizzy stickers add a lot of dimension to my cards.

I am loving all of the April kit projects that are being uploaded to the gallery this month, they are all so inspiring!
