Journaling Cards
I love the September kit and the Jenni Bowlin journaling cards that are included in this kit! On the layout below I decided to use the journaling card with stamps and cut out strips of the card. I especially love the numbers in the margin of the card, I decided to place then out of order just to add a bit of fun to the layout. I look forward to seeing how you use those journaling cards! Happy Scrapping! Melanie
More Fun with the Halloween Kit
Since October is almost here, I've thought it's time to think about what fun projects I can create for Halloween! We have our Halloween kit to help you with all of your creations. One project I did last week was this hanging cone. I'm going to hang it next to a "spooky" banner I made last year and fill it with a sweet treat (probably peanut M&M's!) Another project I made with the Halloween kit is this 8 X 8 layout. I have an album where a keep a layout of my kids in their Halloween costumes each year. Here's a look at the layout featuring the 2007 costumes. We have just a few Halloween kits left, so get one while you can. Remember, it will ship for free with your October kit.
Two posts in one!
Hello everyone, I hope you are all good and well! I unfortunately had to skip last week's post because of a wonky internet connection, so I thought I'd make up for it by sharing 2 projects today. First, here's a card I like to call "high style", LOL! When I first saw this Lily Bee flower, I wanted to use it right away it's so gorgeous. However, I don't really have a scrapbooking style that goes well with it, so I thought a card would be best. Very simple to make, but highly stylish, don't you think?! ;) Here is a layout using a Fancy Pants KraftKutz paper and some Lily Bee papers and die-cuts. I also used a Jenni Bowlin journaling card that I cut in two. And those Jenni Bowlin mini-alphas? My new favourite product!! See you next week, hopefully with a project with the October kit! Claude
tip of the day.....
today I wanted to talk about stamps. Particularly Hero Arts stamps, I LOVE them! Okay, so I have a new set of stamps I LOVE--BUT I'm drawing a blank. What to do? I go to their website HERO ARTS, they have a search engine you plug in your stamp number. Up pops your stamps set most of the time they have samples. It's great for me because it's a spring board of inspiration! So the next time you can't figure out what to do with your stamps try the manufacturer website, they have samples! Labels: tip
White Space
I used to be afraid of white space. Then, I went overboard and would leave too much white space. Now, I hope I've reached a happy medium! I like clustering several patterned papers and embellishments over about 1/3 of the paper. Then, put your photo (s) on top the the clustering. I feel like this draws the eye to the photo -- which is the reason for the layout anyway, right? The september kit is FULL of fun layering papers -- all different shapes, size, and colors -- so cluster away!

A Sept Kit layout & a reminder!!!
Happy Friday Scrapbook Circle Blog readers! Gotta love it when Friday rolls around :o)
Today I'd like to share the layout that I created for a recent PageMaps Blog contest...I love doing these...for one, Becky Fleck's PageMaps are awesome! & second, I get another layout DONE!!!
The sketch calls for a 5x7 photo, but I didn't have any photo paper at home that size...so I decided to print the photo onto cardstock! I LOVE how it turned out! I also used Picasa 3 to change the photo to B & W and to also keep the color focus on my son's orange hunting vest...I think this turned out pretty cool...& adds to the "vintage" feel of the layout! Here's "this moment" I used the September Kit (which is amazing, by the way!!!) and some chipboard & ribbon from my own stash to create this layout: September Kit: PP-Fancy Pants KraftKuts-Ledger PP-Lily Bee Vintage Poppy-Curio PP-Pink Paislee Amber Road-Harvest Hayride Pink Paislee Amber Road-Borderlines Clear Stickers Jenni Bowlin-Vintage Black stickers (mini circle alpha) LOVE THESE!!! So in love!!!
With the September kit!!! This was my first time working with Lily Bee Designs papers and I am in love!!! The smaller die cut sheets are so fabulous! Don't know why there aren't more companies doing these. On the layout below I used one of those die cut sheet for the placement of my title. Love the effect and the little tulip! I hope you are enjoying this fabulous kit!!! Can't wait to see the creations in the gallery! Melanie

tip of the day.....
The September kit contains a FABULOUS flower, I immediately thought hair clip! Quick and easy! All you need: flower hot glue gun
1. heat up your gun. 2. apply glue to the back of flower 3. *QUICKLY* open hair clip and place in glue. (opening assures you that you won't glue it shut)
Here's the finished product: It's that easy! Labels: tip
Using alphabet outlines
I ALWAYS run out of the letter "E". I think they should sell alphabet additions with just letters "E" and "S" and "A" and "T". Anyway, as I was using the incredible September kit, I needed just a few more "E's" than I had. So, I just cut out the outline of the letter that was left over on the paper. It worked great with this particular kit because the backdrop was white as well. So, there is yet another way to make your alphabets go even further!

Reenergizing my batteries...
For the past 2 weeks, things have been pretty slow for me on the scrapbooking front. I've been wanting to scrap, but I simply haven't had the energy for it. Has that ever happened to you? You see, 5 weeks ago, I walked into my house to find an inch of water in my kitchen/dining room. The upstairs toilet cracked and leaked for a whole day! We have walls, floors and ceilings to be redone on 3 floors. Then our one-and-only car died. Completely stopped working. So we had to buy a new one fairly quickly with money we don't have... Finally, my first-born entered kindergarten. It's the first time I'm away from him (he's never been to daycare.) My point is this: as much as we love scrapbooking, it happens that life gets in the way. And that's okay! Soon enough, things will get better and our passion for the craft will come back stronger than ever! Have a great week, I wish you all the best! :)

tip of the day....
Using numbers for letters: Don't you just hate it when you run out of letters and want them for a title? All I needed was an L, what to do? I looked at anything else that might be substitute, the 7 it was! So next time you find yourself in a quandary, look at what else you have on your letter sticker sheet and you just might find your solution!

A Mat of Strips
When you have just one picture you really want to focus on, a fun way is to create a mat from a bunch of strips of paper. I went through my scraps from June, July and August and came up with all these strips of paper. I used the August black twine (?) and just spruced it up a bit.
I love using up all my scraps and creating a layout that comes together so well. Peace out.
Saturday Sketch!
Hello everyone. Sorry for the late post, the week just got away from me. So to make it up I have created this sketch to go along with one of my layouts that I created with the August kit. I hope that you will enjoy it and play along! Happy Scrapping! Melanie
{September 09 Card Challenge Contest}...a prize is up for grabs!!!
How about a card challenge contest girls??? Do I have any players??? I know we have some fabulous card makers out there!!! & yes, Miss Lisa has agreed to put a prize up for grabs!!! (she will be posting a photo of the prize next week) Thanks Lisa :o) If you know me at all, you know that I LOVE working with sketches...so, I chose a PageMaps CardMap sketch from June 2009 for your inspiration: I love this one because I could incorporate several patterned papers and the design is clean & simple! I decided to create a "Thank You" card, as one can never have enough of them on hand! Here's what I came up with: I used Jillibean Soup pp's and a journaling sprout from the August Kit here at Scrapbook Circle. As you can see, I followed the sketch VERY closely! For the contest, you can change it up however you see fit; rotate, substitute an embellishment or element, etc. The sketch is only meant to INSPIRE :o) Here are a few closeups: In order to create the upper left circular element of the card, I chose to cut out a circle from the Jillibean Soup patterned paper. I thought it would be fun to use as the base of my flower embellishment. Here is the upper left corner of the card with the flower & brad layered over the Jillibean Soup circle... The Jillibean Soup journaling sprout came with printing on the other side, but I chose to use the blank side for my "Thank You" sentiment, stamped in red. I used an eyelet & some embroidery thread to attach the sentiment to the card & it was done! Super simple & easy...but I really like the finished project! Supplies: June 09 CardMap White card base-unknown Jillibean Soup pp-hot water (both sides), mixed veggies (both sides) - AUG KIT, Jillibean Soup-journaling number sprout - AUG KIT, Stampin' Up-eyelet-Night of Navy, Spare Parts by The Paper Studio-silk flower & brad, Embroidery Thread, Machine zig zag stitching, Stampin' Up ink-Real RedThe RULES & fine print: Use the CardMap sketch above to create a card of your own with your choice of supplies. Post your creation to your blog, then post a comment to this post with a link back to your blog. Better yet, upload your creation to our Scrapbook Circle photo gallery & note "Sept 09 Card Contest" in the title of your photo upload. Either way, you will be entered into the contest which will run until September 30, 2009. A winner will be randomly chosen and announced on October 1, 2009. (There's no fine print...I was just kidding about that part!) So, let's get those creative juices flowing & get some fabulous cards made! I can't wait to see what you come up with!!! Have You Seen the Lily Bee Paper?
Lily Bee is a newer paper company and we are very excited to feature their Vintage Poppy line in our September kit. This paper is truly beautiful and so easy to work with. I had one hour to scrapbook yesterday and I created both of these layouts. Everything used on these layouts is from the September kit. We still have a few kits left, so be sure to grab one while you can!
Tip of the day
If you're like me, you like dimension on your layouts. That's why pop-dots were invented! But pop-dots aren't only to pop-up a *whole* element; they can also be used to pop just *part* of it. I must come clean and tell you this tip didn't originate from me. My pal NoƩmi told me about it. In the above layout, I wanted the leaves to pop-up while the stem stayed flat on the paper. Before I got this tip, I would've simply curled them up a little and left them as-is. But think about it... What do you think would happen to the curled up leaves once they were in my album? That's right, they'd go flat. Now, I put small pop-dots under them. That way, once the layout is in my album, it'll keep all the dimension I was going for! Always remember this: pop-dots are your friends! :) Claude
tip of the day....
do you ever make your layout without adhering your pictures? I do! I layout my whole page adhering the main papers then I maneuver my pictures around. Sometimes after taking the pictures off my layout I can't remember where they were exactly. To help remember I break out my digital camera and take a picture. So, when I go back to completing my layout I can see where everything was! So the next time you find yourself forgetting take a picture! Labels: tip
More September Kit Photos
We are so excited about our September kit and we are happy to share a few more photos of the goodies with you. Here's a look at the paper. An up close look at some of the kit goodness. And here is the full kit.The kits will all be shipping the beginning of next week!
A Couple of September Kit Layouts
I am having such a great time playing with the September kit. Although the colors of the Pink Paislee Amber Road line have a fall feel, I think that they are perfect for a variety of occasions. The first layout I did was one of my husband and kids in the kitchen cooking. I love how the wallet sized photos worked on this page. One of my favorite products in the kit has been the Pink Paislee clear border stickers. They can be cut apart and give many design options. The background of the sticker is completely clear which gives a really cool effect. Another thing I thought this paper was prefect for was a couple of beach photos. I added some light brown paint for a sandy effect. Everything on both of these layouts is in the September kit.
