Scraps Card

What kind of person scrapbooker would I be if I gave you a challenge and didn't do it myself? If you need a little reminder, check out my last post.

Since I didn't get the chance to play with the July kit, I decided to go ahead and make a card out of the scraps I had on my scrap table. I had just finished a layout with Nikki Sivils papers, so I went ahead with that.

A great way to use up your scraps is to use your punches. Here, I used a butterfly punch by Martha Stewart.

So, how about you? Did you take on my challenge?

Black & White and color all over

Hi!
One of my favorite layouts from the July Kit was this one that I made about my DD. I was looking at it wondering why I liked it so much, when I realized that I loved the Black & White photo against all the bright colors of the kit.

Next time when you are getting ready to print up a bunch of photos -- choose 2 or 3 and print them in black and white. We always have such fun, bright colors in our kits -- and July was NO exception. Then, using any layout you want -- just add strips of brightly colored paper to a black and white photo! I bet you'll love the result!

So often, it seems we get carried away with all the fun papers and embellishments that we forget that it is the photo we are trying to showcase! I think this look really makes you focus on the picture -- and that was my goal!

So, print a few in black & white -- then add some color all over!

Jennie

How about a Color Combo Challenge?

I am all about creating cards and layouts for challenge blogs...you could say I'm just slightly addicted to it! There are so many challenge blogs out there, so with limited "scrappy" time, I have to limit myself to just a few! :0)

I recently discovered SPCC Color Combos and thought I'd share a card that I created this week for Color Combo #7:

Summer Sun, Old Olive & Bermuda Breeze

I have been wanting to try a die cut shaped card, & finally did it. I started with a white cardstock base that was pre-folded. I chose my largest Nestabilities Scallop Circle die which measures approx. 4 inches across. Using my Cuttlebug, I placed the die under the card, allowing the die to overhang the folded edge of the card, thus creating the hinge for the top of the card.

Here's "BLOOM where you are planted":

and a view from above, so that you can see how the card hinges at the top:

I used the yellow Bazzill cardstock from the May kit and the Sassafras Vintage Yummy-Memory Lane from the July kit. All other supplies came from my stash!

I encourage you to find a challenge blog; you will be surprised at what you can create when just given a little nudge in a different direction! Plus, there are usually scrappy goodies up for grabs! Now who doesn't love that???

Thanks for stopping by! Take care! & enjoy the weekend!!!

A Thankful Thursday

Hi All!! I have a little project to share with you today. A very simple tag that you can create for a package, or even use it as a card by itself. But first I want to share with you that today will be my last blog post with Scrapbook Circle. With a heavy heart, I have decided that I need to step down from the Design Team and focus on my family and my relationship with my Lord and Savior. I woke up one day and realized that all of the blessings in my life were being neglected for my design time. So, I am going to start spending more time with them, and also spending more time growing closer to Him. He has given me more than I could ever ask for, and I want to be a good steward. So, that means cutting back in areas so that I can give more in others. I want to thank Lisa so much for the amazing opportunity of being a part of Scrapbook Circle. This is THE best kit club that I have been a part of. Lisa is amazing at putting them together, but more than that, she has a heart of gold. So, thank you my sweet friend for letting me design for you. I also want to thank the Design Team. I have been blessed by the friendships that I have made while here, and I know that they will continue. Thank you for the inspiration that y'all have given to me. It is a great thing to be a part of a team where you admire each and every designer. I will be stopping by for inspiration and fun chats :D You can stop by my blog anytime and say hi too!!

Okay - Here is a fun, simple little project that can be done in less than 20 minutes! We all like that don't we? Everything, except the coaster, is from the July Kit. I added the patterned paper on to the coaster. If you want to distress it, leave a little excess. Choose and place your sentiment. Then with a Crop-A-Dile, punch your hole and add your ribbon! That's it! You can make these to coordinate with any gift or for any occasion. They are so cute, and everyone will love the homemade touch :)

Well, that's it for me! Thank y'all for stopping by, and for all of the support and encouragment :)

Many Blessings~~ Danielle Wycough

Strawberries and Friends

Two new layouts with our upcoming August kit.
Everything on the layouts is in the kit except for the black cardstock. Don't you love the Glitz heart paper and all of the great Cosmo Cricket Boyfriend paper?

More peeks coming soon!

Journaling

A recent trend that I have noticed is putting the journaling in a top corner of the layout. I really like this new trend, it offers a fun variation to do doing journaling, which is most often found beside the main picture. On the layout below I have used a journaling stamp, but journaling strips would offer the same effect. I hope that you will also try this new way of journaling.

Tuesday Challenge

How about a quick challenge for you today?

I'd like you to take some paper scraps you have from your July stash and make a card. Easy peasy, isn't it?!

Let's not let any of that gorgeous paper go to waste!

tip of the day.....

A couple of weeks ago I made cards with the FABULOUS July kit. They are smaller than a usual A2 cards size, what to do? I tried everything and NOTHING seemed to match up or be even. I then had a thought, what about using an A2 sized card (measures 4 3/8" x 5 3/4"), the height of my card fit, but the width didn't..... so this is what I did:
1. I CAREFULLY opened up my envelope (it's OK if it tears a bit, you will either be trimming that off or it will be covered up)
2. I placed my card in the center of my envelope and traced (to make a template). For my flaps I eyeballed it by looking at my envelope and free handing it. I then cut it out.
3. This is what your template should look like:
4. next I took my template and placed it in the center of another envelope traced it and cut it out. NOW you have a working envelope!
5. To seal your envelope and hide ragged edges....on the outer flap add your adhesive, ONLY to the edge of the lower flap.
6. Fold your lower flap up and adhere your side flaps it should look like this:
7. And here is my finished envelope from the front.
I stamped and embossed a little flower to add to my set of cards. So the next time you need an envelope, this might just be your answer! Enjoy!

Mixing & Matching

Just dropping in to share another layout with you today! I created this layout using a PageMap sketch and bits & pieces from the May, June & July kits here @ Scrapbook Circle! I am just tickled with being able to do some mixing & matching with the recent kits!

Here's "19 YEARS"

This layout features a photo of my DH & I as we celebrated 19 years!!! of marriage. We don't often have our picture taken together, so I'm glad we got this one!

As I mentioned, I was able to use supplies from 3 different Scrapbook Circle kits as I created this layout:

July kit: Cosmo Cricket Early Bird-Apron Strings & Farmer's Market, Sassafras Vintage Yummy-Memory Lane, Kaiser paper flower, Jenni Bowlin chipboard button

June kit: Bazzill Edges in Lime, Sassafras Retro card

May kit: American Crafts Craft Fair-Elenore Battington, Fancy Pants Delight journaling notebook

Would love to see what you can create by mixing & matching!!! Thanks for stopping by! Take care!

A Little August Peek for You...

Stickers

I love stickers, especially cardstock stickers. The July kit featured the fabulous cardstock stickers by Sassfras Lass. I have used a lot of these stickers on the layout posted below. I like to layer them and use foam dots to give dimension to my layout. I especially love how I positioned the sun behind the pink cloud.

Stickers are so much fun and versatile, I look forward to seeing how you use the stickers in the July kit.

Do you scrap about YOU?

It's always the same thing isn't it? WE are not in the pictures. We scrap about our kids, but not about OURSELVES.

I recently stumbled upon a site called Everything-About-Scrapbooking.com. It is a confusing site, because of all the ads that are there. However, I did manage to find a gem in there: a weekly challenge called "A YOU Scrapbooking Idea". Every week, it gives you a topic to scrap about. The good part? It's all about YOU!

To see the past topics, click here. You will have to scroll down to see the list. You can also do like I did and add it to your blog feeder. You will then be able to see all the new topic ideas that are posted.

I hope this can give you ideas to scrap about YOU!

tip of the day.....

Here is my first ever tip video! I have to thank DD as my camera gal , she did a great job! On the video I failed to mention how long I had cut my ribbon approximately 8", after I finished it ended up being 4 3/4". This will change depending on how big your folds are AND how much ribbon you cut. Here is the finished product:

Go ahead...use a sketch!!!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm always just amazed by how fast life seems to be flying by...always so glad to see Friday, but then stop & wonder what happened to the week!?!

Have you ever used a sketch? If not, give it a try! I have "lifted" layouts before, but in just the last year I have become a sketch-a-holic! For me, it's all about time. Because I work full-time outside of my home, the little bits of scrappy time I do have need to be used wisely! Rather than spending hours deciding on design, I prefer to find a sketch that suites my photo(s) and theme...then I can get to the good stuff! Playing with scrappy goodies!

Some of my favorite sketches come from PageMaps and 52sketches52weeks. The layout that I want to share today is based on a sketch from 52sketches52weeks and I didn't change it much. Sometimes it works to rotate or flip the sketch...to really make it your own.

Here's the sketch that inspired me:

and here's my layout "the only ONE for me":

I snapped this photo of my DH on Father's Day and it's one of my recent favorites. I converted it to black & white and then pulled out the July Kit from Scrapbook Circle...I know that everyone has already said this, but the Cosmo Cricket Early Bird line is absolutely WONDERFUL! And who says you can't use flowers on a guy layout??? Another one of my favorites in the July kit is the Sandbox Swiss Dot paper...love it! I used it as the background to this layout :0)

and finally, here's a close up of those beautiful Kaiser Rhinestones, Making Memories journaling spots and Sassafras cardstock stickers:

Now...go find a sketch & create something fabulous!

Take care & have a great weekend!

What A Punch!

So, I love the July kit. In case I haven't said it enough...I LOVE IT!!! This kit is so incredible. The papers and embellishments have made this one of the easiest kits to work with. Everything coordinates so well, and all you have to do is just play with it :) It takes all of the guesswork out of it for you.

One thing that I have done is to use punches with a ton of stuff that I have made. I have particulary used the Martha Stewart Butterfly punch. I love this punch, and when paired with this kit, my projects were taking flight.

In this layout, I used the butterflies to have them float up from the title. I used three butterfly punch outs, and then I added some of the Kaiser rhinestones from the kit as well. I really like the way that these came out.

I also love that you can use the scraps from paper to make the butterflies. It definitely will help for you to get the most for your money.

I hope that everyone is having a fantastic, summery week!! I will see you back here next week.

Blessings~~~ Danielle

Stenciling with stickers

The July kit features the fun Making Memories puffy alpha stickers. I love the mix sizes for the fonts, they are so fun and versatile. I have also used them as a stencil. Simply apply them to your layout, trace with a pen and remove the stickers. I used this technique in the layout below;

Happy scrapping!

Scrapbooking the everyday.

I often get comments on my style of scrapbooking. Not about the design, but about the stories. I tend to chronicle the day-to-day. The little things my kids say or things they do at a certain moment in their life. Things that make you go "aaaawwww" when they happen, but are so quickly forgotten.

I wrote a post about this a while ago (see here), but now I thought I'd talk to you about how I go about chronicling all these stories.

You can see what I mean in the following layouts (the first two were made with the June 09 kit):

So how do I do it? Do I have some sort of phenomenal memory? Nothing like that, I assure you. What I have is a calendar and a trusty notebook. My calendar has big squares for each day of the week. Every time my kids say and/or do something noteworthy, I go to it and quickly write it down:

If it's a long story, I'll often do a blog post about it to share with my friends and family. In that case, I'll go on my calendar for the day of my blog post and remind myself that I have a story online.

Once the month is over, I transcribe everything back in a notebook. It takes 10 minutes of my time and all of the stories are together in one place.

When comes the time for me to scrap a random picture (I call "random" all those pictures that I like, but that have no specific stories attached to them), I simply go to my notebook and find a story to tell. Easy-peasy. These are the stories I'll love reading again in 20 years!

tip of the day.....

Today I'm gonna share how I made my grass for this fun little project. First off I glued floral foam in the bottom of my tin. Because my paper was double sided I folded my scrap in half, then I cut my pieces of paper to about 2 inches long and variated the width, cutting the tops to a slanted edge to resemble blades of grass. then I just pushed them into the foam every which way to resemble grass. Simple, fun!

Spin the bottle!!!

When I first opened up the July Kit, I pulled out the spinner card and thought -- I really need to JOURNAL about some of these fun things -- my first kiss, crazy days, etc.

So, I pulled out my 'growing up' years album, that I am slowly working on re-doing (it was done 20 years ago with scotch tape and crayola markers...).  I found a few pictures that corresponded well with some of the categories on the spinner card.

I attached the card to some fun paper from the July kit right in the middle of the page. Then, with a black marker and a ruler, I extended the lines on the spinner card to the rest of the 12x12 paper. This way, I had a specific space for each category on the card.

Then, I started writing. And writing. And writing. My main focus on this page was obviously the journaling and just writing all the fun details of those memories. I decided to keep all my 'answers' to the spin the bottle spinner card strictly during my highschool years.  That way, my husband can't get too mad that he isn't my 'biggest crush', since we hadn't met yet! :)

Here is my layout. Like I said -- loads of JOURNALING.

So, if you feel the desire -- go after it -- I guarantee the extensive journaling will make people stop and read some of the stories on this page -- whether or not I want them to!!!

"Vintage Sunrise" is full of possibilities...

I am having so much fun creating design team layouts & projects with the July Kit from Scrapbook Circle! This kit has some of the fabulous Cosmo Cricket Early Bird pp's along with a little Sassafras thrown in too! & they coordinate so well!

A while back ago I found some Making Memories Flip Frame albums on clearance at Hobby Lobby....at the time, I thought they would make great mini albums for Grandpas & Grandmas. I pulled one out of my stash and decided it would also make a great little "all about me" album. So far, I only have the cover done...but was totally inspired by the very cool Cosmo Cricket Spinner Card "Spin the Bottle" that was included in the July kit!

How fun is this!?! & if you look closely, you will see that the green/white polka dot background is actually packaging from the Making Memories Puffy Alpha! LOVE it when I find something that I can RE-USE!!!

Supplies used from the July Kit:

PP-Cosmo Cricket Early Bird-Cherry Pie
PP-Cosmo Cricket Early Bird-Elements
PP-Sassafras Vintage Yummy-Pleasantly Puzzled
Sassafras Cardstock Stickers-Sweet Treats
Making Memories Puffy Alpha-brown (& packaging !!!)
Cosmo Cricket Spinner Card-Spin the Bottle
Bazzill Edges in Lime (from the June kit)

From my stash: Offray ribbon-Sheer Petit Dot Brown

Now, go & have fun with your Scrapbook Circle kit!!!! Thanks for stopping by...here's wishing you a SAFE & HAPPY JULY 4TH WEEKEND!!!

Take care!

Cosmo Cricket - Be Still My Heart!

I am in love....

with the July kit! Oh my goodness, this is probably my most favorite kit so far. Everything about it is fantastic! The papers are WOW!!! I love to stitch on my layouts, cards, tags, and well, basically I can :D I have had so much fun with this kit and stitching. Stitching can add so much to a project. You can have a serious single stitch for cards! Jazz it up with a fun zig zag! Or one of my favorite little things to do is to take and do a straight stitch but to do it multiple times around the edges of a layout. The key is not to follow a line. Let it go out of bounds. Let it be a little messy. Let it curve. It gives it such a fantastic element to the layout, and will actually help add to the theme. This layout has some additional embellishments, but make sure and notice the stitching. I also took some sequins and ran an adhesive line, adhered the sequins to it and stitched over it. I hope that the you will try and stitch on one of your projects. Play around with the different stitches and thread colors. If you don't have a sewing machine, then hand stitch. You will love the results :)

I hope that everyone has a fantastic Fourth of July!! Happy Birthday America :D I will see you back next Thursday!
